Toddler & Young Dancers

Introduction Classes for your little dancers.

Creative Dance At Inland Northwest Ballet

The Creative Dance Class at Inland Northwest Ballet is designed for children ages 3 to 6, offering a playful yet structured introduction to classical ballet and tap. In this class, young dancers develop important skills like coordination, balance, and confidence through imaginative activities and the use of fun props. The class not only teaches basic ballet techniques but also helps children learn essential social and classroom behaviors such as following directions and working well with others. With the option to participate in the studio’s annual June performance, students have the opportunity to express themselves on stage while building a strong foundation for future dance training.

The Giggles & Wiggles Class is perfect for young children, typically 2.5 - 5 years old, who are eager to move, explore, and have fun in a relaxed and playful environment. With activities designed to hold the attention of little ones, the class encourages physical activity and creativity while fostering a love for movement. Unlike other dance classes, Giggles & Wiggles does not include performance opportunities, making it a great choice for children who simply want to enjoy dancing without the pressure of preparing for a performance.

What Is The Difference?

At Inland Northwest Ballet, both Giggles & Wiggles and Creative Dance offer young children the chance to explore movement and dance, but they cater to different levels of readiness. Giggles & Wiggles is ideal for young, first-time dancers, typically 2.5 - 5 years old; who are just beginning to learn how a class works. In this class, children are given very basic instructions and are allowed more time to adjust to the flow of the class. The focus is on helping young dancers become comfortable with simple tasks like standing in line, following directions, and exploring movement in a relaxed, playful environment. It's perfect for little ones who are new to structured activities.

On the other hand, Creative Dance, typically for 3-6 years old; is a bit more fast-paced and is suited for children who already have some experience following basic instructions. In this class, dancers are expected to move through activities with more agility, such as quickly going to their shapes, sitting down, standing up, and managing props. While still playful and imaginative, the class encourages a higher level of participation and coordination, making it a great fit for children who are ready to build on their foundational skills and start preparing for more structured ballet classes.

A Fun and Engaging Dance Experience At INB

Our Creative Dance class is designed to be a delightful experience for both boys and girls, full of playful activities that keep even the wiggliest of children engaged. Using imaginative themes, energetic music, and a variety of fun props, we invite the children to "chasse, skip, and jete around the garden," as they naturally love to do. Each class session is carefully planned to include a mix of activities that hold their attention and allow them to explore a wide range of movement patterns and musical styles.

Structured Yet Playful:

The class begins as we dance into the studio to flowing classical music, transitioning into lively bouncing movements, and then a seated floor warm-up using props to capture attention and engage their listening ears. From there, we stand and perform ballet fundamental exercises that are specifically tailored to the young dancers' developing bodies.

Expressive Movement:

Rather than focusing on memorizing steps, we encourage our little dancers to express themselves through a variety of movements – stretching, turning, bending, and balancing, to name a few. This approach not only fosters creativity but also helps them develop essential physical skills like coordination, balance, and spatial awareness.

Building Skills and Confidence Through Dance

Beyond the physical benefits, our Creative Dance class at Inland Northwest Ballet offers numerous developmental advantages for your child's growing mind. We believe in nurturing the whole child, and our classes are designed to do just that.

Life Skills Through Dance

As your child dances, they also build valuable life skills. From improving their counting abilities to developing leadership and patience, each class helps them grow in ways that extend beyond the studio. Through social connection and teamwork, they learn to work well with others and form lasting friendships.

Finding Their "Super Powers"

We know that every child has unique strengths, which we like to call their "Super Powers." Whether it's their natural sense of rhythm, creativity, or ability to lead, we strive to identify and enhance these qualities in each child who joins us.
